Our QR code with the GS1 Digital Link Standard links comprehensive information about the entire food supply chain and can therefore provide targeted information to the various process managers. This makes our GN system web-enabled, because the GS1 Digital Link Standard connects the GS1 identity - such as a GTIN - with the web. With this new standard, various information about a physical unit can be made available flexibly via a single link.

This is how the GS1 Digital Link works in our Rieber GN system

The GS1 Digital Link is encoded in our lasered QR code. By simply scanning with a smartphone, handheld scanner or other recording units, the individual process participants are directed to an appropriate and defined website that provides exactly the data and information required in this sequence.

While a proprietary URL usually refers to a single, specific website, the GS1 Digital Link in combination with a GS1 compliant resolver service enables connections to different information in different languages and formats. This is because it is designed so that different apps read the same QR code, but lead users to different destinations.

  • This allows consumers to access detailed product information, recipes or storage/regeneration instructions, as well as frequently asked questions.
  • If, however, a logistics company or a large kitchen, for example, calls up exactly the same code, they can access or enter data that is relevant to them, such as the GN reusable booking including order picking, HACCP checklists/temperature measurements or product videos.

This means that we can use the GS1 Digital Link to network all partners in the supply chain/food supply chain and the trade via the QR code on the GN containers and lids. The linked information can be adapted at any time without having to renew the data carrier - such as a QR code - and its content. This opens up many new possibilities for expanding the dynamic information on the physical unit online.

Existing GS1 idents remain valid and are embedded in a standard-compliant URL. A migration to GS1 Digital Link can be carried out without making any fundamental changes to existing systems and processes.
