Real-World Emergency Drill at speisewerk: Mobile Catering, Hygiene and Food Infrastructure for Up to 200 Participants

Ludwigsburg, July 3, 2026 – The “Familia Communalis” civil protection exercise at urbanharbor Ludwigsburg demonstrated how safe catering and reliable food infrastructure can be maintained even under crisis conditions. The exercise scenario involved severe hurricane-force winds causing a widespread power outage and requiring extensive civil protection measures. At speisewerk, Rieber provided the mobile food and catering infrastructure, creating the conditions needed to supply up to 200 participants under realistic emergency response conditions.

France's catering industry is undergoing a radical change: Since January 1, 2025, the new EGAlim law prohibits the use of plastic containers for cooking, transporting, heating and serving food in school and university catering as well as in pediatric and maternity wards. Thousands of establishments have had to completely change their approach because the more than one billion meals served each year were previously mostly served in disposable plastic containers.
