Real-World Emergency Drill at speisewerk: Mobile Emergency Catering, Hygiene and Food Infrastructure for Up to 200 Participants
Ludwigsburg, July 3, 2026 – The “Familia Communalis” civil protection exercise at urbanharbor Ludwigsburg demonstrated how safe catering and reliable food infrastructure can be maintained even under crisis conditions. The exercise scenario involved severe hurricane-force winds causing a widespread power outage and requiring extensive civil protection measures. At speisewerk, Rieber provided the mobile food and catering infrastructure, creating the conditions required to supply up to 200 participants under realistic emergency response conditions.
Representatives from 18 cities and municipalities across the Ludwigsburg district took part in the exercise. While the municipal crisis management teams trained their emergency procedures and coordination processes, youth fire brigades assumed the role of members of the affected population. This made it possible to test both the organizational and practical processes involved in a large-scale crisis under realistic conditions.
Emergency catering: mobile, modular and ready for immediate deployment
At speisewerk, Rieber not only provided the facilities and the necessary food infrastructure, but also prepared the meals for the exercise. Participants were provided with dinner, overnight accommodation and breakfast.
For two days, speisewerk at urbanharbor was transformed into a realistic emergency supply and training location. The focus was on how people can be provided with food safely, hygienically and reliably in exceptional situations, even when existing infrastructure is only partially available.
“Security of supply does not begin with the food itself, but with the infrastructure behind it. What matters is that systems are quickly available, flexible in their deployment and reliable in operation. This is exactly what we develop our mobile solutions for in professional applications,” says Leszek Herrmann, Sales Director at Rieber.
The development of mobile catering solutions for emergency response organizations has a long tradition at Rieber. Since the 1980s, the company has been equipping armed forces, civil protection services, and aid and rescue organizations with certified products for professional field catering. Decades of experience continuously feed into the development of robust, mobile and field-tested solutions for exceptional deployment scenarios.
Mobile infrastructure for every deployment scenario
As a specialist in professional communal catering, Rieber provides solutions for the entire food process – from storage and transport to preparation, regeneration, serving and the hygienic safeguarding of meals.
The portfolio includes thermoport® food transport boxes, navioven® regeneration solutions, varithek® cooking and serving modules, mobile roll-container systems, GN containers, hygiene stations, as well as digital systems for documentation and traceability.
The standardized roll-container modular system was specifically developed for exceptional deployment scenarios. It enables mobile cooking, serving, transport, washing and hygiene solutions based on robust units that can be moved and deployed quickly. This allows catering operations to be organized directly at the deployment site – in buildings, vehicles, tents, containers or open areas.
